V letech 1987 až 1996 navštěvoval základní školu se speciálním hudebním zaměřením, současně se v lidové škole věnoval hře na violoncello. Poté studoval Ježkovu hudební konzervatoř, kde mu řekli, že je „nerealizovatelný“. David pak v jednom rozhovoru vysvětlil, co tím bylo myšleno – že údajně nemůže vystupovat před lidmi; nemůže ani zpívat, ani hrát. Ve třetím ročníku z konzervatoře odešel a působil v kapele Laura a její tygři jako sólový zpěvák. More

V pohádce Královský slib (2001) si zahrál roli prince. Ve stejném filmu vystupoval i jeho otec Jan Kraus, který ztvárnil šaška. O rok později účinkoval ve filmu Archa pro Vojtu, pro který nazpíval i píseň „Proč?“. V roce 2003 spolupracoval se svým tátou, jež se ujal scénáře a režie filmu Městečko, pro který David složil hudbu. Zazpíval si zde i písničku „Rodné lány“.

V září stejného roku zahajuje se svou kapelou v pražském Lucerna Music Bar své první koncertní turné, které je hned od začátku úspěšné. V roce 2004 si ve filmu podle skutečnosti Bolero zahrál Artura Aksmana. Na jeho natáčení má David rozporuplné vzpomínky. Ze začátku si prý natáčení užívali, smáli se, ale později jim do smíchu už moc nebylo. Natáčeli se totiž scény znásilňování a topení Po jedné scéně, kdy David a další měli svazovat a poté polévat herečku Báru Seidlovou, se Bára doopravdy rozbrečela. Herci pak měli pocit, jako by to skutečně spáchali, ne že to bylo jen pro film.

Roku 2006 se podílel i na filmu režisérky Věry Chytilové Hezké chvilky bez záruky. A to jak hudebně, tak i herecky. Zahrál si zde společně se svou matkou, která i ve filmu hrála jeho maminku. Ve filmu pak byla použita i Davidova hudba. Dalším jeho hudebním počinem pro film je písnička „Nevinná“, kterou nazpíval pro snímek podle bestselleru Michala Viewegha Účastníci zájezdu.

Dlouhodoběji také obstarává hudební vložku do otcova pořadu Uvolněte se, prosím. Nejnověji ho můžeme vidět v muzikálu Obraz Doriana Graye, kde hraje a zpívá hlavní postavu, tedy Doriana Graye. Mimo to také ilustroval otcovy knihy Tak to vidím já. Sám rád poslouchá Prince, Jemiroquai, King Crimson a černošskou muziku 70. let. Z domácí tvorby kapely Wohnout, Guločar nebo Chetane.

Má mladší bratry Adama a Jáchyma (matkou je Ivana Chýlková) a nedávno nalezeného Marka. Zajímavostí na závěr může být, že David ač (mj.) skladatel a zpěvák, neumí noty. Hájí se tím, že je dysgrafik a noty jsou pro něj prostě text. Když tedy skládá, vybavuje si současně text i melodii. Tu si nezapisuje, ale jen zpívá a následně zkouší zahrát. Less
